OmniVisualWebSideSciences-ature!
Omniture just bought Visual Sciences for $394M. Congratulations to all involved. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out for clients, prospects, and the entire industry but exciting times indeed.
I sure am glad I predicted industry consolidation by the end of the decade back when I worked for JupiterResearch.

What are the customer opinions on this combination?
Does it bring about more concern or enthusiasm?
I’ve seen both cases when market leaders get together and am curious as to what the concensus is for this marriage.

duhmoment: You raise an excellent question, one that has come up repeatedly in conversations about the volume of data that Omniture will now have. Unfortunately I don’t have the answer to your question — perhaps you should raise the question over in the Yahoo! group?
Jeff and Trinadh: Thanks!
Michel: I personally am enthusiastic given that VSCN could have been bought by a company that knows nothing about web analytics, which based on SPSS and NetIQ’s purchase of NetGenesis and WebTrends respectively, would probably not have ended well. At least Josh James, et al. know a thing or two about web analytics and will almost certainly take good care of the Visual Sciences customer base (and hopefully at least some of the employees!)
Robert: On behalf of my family, my publisher, and all of the little people I gladly accept this award. All of my life I have … wait what, you’re giving it to Eisenberg for “Omniture Acquires Visual Sciences”?!?! You’re kidding me! That hack!!!! The academy is a joke, run by a syndicate of insiders patting each other on the back, you b*stards!!! Oh, what, you are giving me the award? I love you guys.
(Thanks for your feedback …)

Eric,
This acquisition does not make sense to me and seems like a integration nightmare.
unless…
Are any of these vendors allowed to leverage their tags across a broad network of sites to build a behavioral targeting network?? - say for example using touch clarity?
If my site is a sports site and is currently tagged with hbx code, is Omni allowed to sell that information to advertisers so they can target them as a “sports enthusiast” via a 3rd party cookie when they’re outside of my domain? This would be really valuable to advertisers considering the granularity of information (e.g. search terms, e-commerce checkouts) provided by a Web Analytics solution.
